•Pilates•
Joseph Pilates developed a method of exercise which he called "Contrology" over 70 years ago. This is, today, what is commonly referred to as Pilates. Some practice "classical" Pilates which remains unchanged. Many Pilates instructors and physical therapists have updated the body of work to reflect important biomechanical and kinesiological research and understanding to provide the safest, most effective Pilates experience for a wider variety of participants.
“The goal of contrology (Pilates Method) is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind and the ability to perform life’s daily activities with zest and ease.”
— Joseph Pilates
Pilates improves strength--especially core strength--as well as postural awareness, flexibility and coordination. This type of movement re-education provides the ideal environment for neuromuscular re-education by providing necessary modifications for a movement sequence so it can be re-learned safely and successfully. Patients can be challenged by changing exercises from assistive to resistive in challenging and fun ways. Pilates can also prepare a patient for the transition to functional activities.
Let our new small group exercise classes taught by physical therapists rehabilitate—and inspire—you toward wellness! Classes are small, safe, and specialized and offer an array of exercise modalities from Pilates, to small equipment, posture, balance, yoga, breathing, and flexibility. Most importantly, they are taught or supervised by therapists with safety and rehabilitation goals in mind. Our physical therapists are Polestar Certified instructors of Rehabilitation Pilates.
Our Pilates instructors offer instruction in private, duet, triple and quad group classes. Simply call to set up an appointment!
